Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remains open

Ramban, Mar 22: Despite light rain and slippery road conditions at Dalwassnear Chenani-Nashri tunnel, the Srinagar- Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic of light-medium and heavy vehicles on Friday.

However, traffic authorities said traffic movement remained slow due to the breakdown of few heavy vehicles and a single road, poor surface condition at Dalwass, Mehar-Cafeteria, Ramban, Panthyal Magarkote, Shalgari , Nachlana, and at other places between Nashri and Banihal on the highway.

They further said traffic officials monitoring the regulation of traffic in Ramban said that the highway remained open and hundreds of light medium and heavy vehicles had crossed the Nashri-Banihal sector for their respective destinations without any interruption during the day.

They said heavy load carriers are heading towards Kashmir in a regulated manner.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir traffic police department issued a fresh advisory for Saturday stating that subject to fair weather and road clearance light medium would be allowed to ply on either side.

They said heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply from Qazigund Kashmir towards Jammu after assessing road and traffic situation on Saturday. However, traffic authorities again advised passenger vehicle operators, commuters and people not to undertake journeys on highway during night hours due to apprehensions of shooting tones between Ramban and Banihal. Prefer journey on Srinagar- Jammu National Highway during the day time only.

They further advised commuters to follow lane discipline while travelling especially between Nashri and Banihal sector of the highway

Till filing of this report National Highway, 44 is open and heavy vehicles carrying essential commodities for Valley Kashmir are heading towards Kashmir at a slow pace.
