Ramban, Feb 4: Amid inclement weather conditions, Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic of passenger and heavy traffic but traffic movement was slow due to ongoing four-lane construction work between Nashri and Banihal on Tuesday.

Traffic authorities monitoring the regulation in Ramban said that despite light rain hundreds of light, medium and heavy vehicles plied towards their respective destinations.

They said light medium and heavy motor vehicles released from Jakhani Udhampur crossed the Nashri-Banihal stretch of the highway towards Kashmir and Jammu, respectively

However, they said traffic movement remained slow as usual due to four-lane construction work at Dalwass, Mehad-Cafeteria stretch and between Maroog and Kishtwari Pathar stretch between Nashri and Banihal sector of National Highway. Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir traffic department issued a fresh advisory for Wednesday stating that subject to fair weather and better road conditions passenger light motor vehicles and HMVs will be allowed to ply on either side towards Srinagar and Jammu. They advised the people to confirm the status of the road before undertaking journeys from traffic control units Jammu, Srinagar, Udhampur and Ramban.

They further advised passengers and LMV operators to undertake journeys on the Jammu-Srinagar Highway during this time as there is apprehension of shooting stones between the Ramban and Banihal sectors.
