Srinagar-Jammu National Highway open for 2-way traffic

Ramban, Feb 22: Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic of light medium and heavy vehicles on Saturday. However, traffic authorities said traffic movement remained slow at Dalwass, Mehar-Cafeteria due to ongoing four-lane construction works between Marrog and Kishtwari Pathar and at other places between Nashri and Banihal.

Officials said traffic movement remained slow due to breakdown of three Heavy Vehicles and due to four-lane construction work at Dalwass, Mehad-Cafeteria stretch and between Maroog and Kishtwari Pathar stretch between Nashri and Banihal sector of National Highway. Traffic authorities monitoring the regulation in Ramban said that despite slow traffic movement hundreds of passenger light medium and heavy vehicles, oil and gas tankers plied towards their respective destinations in Srinagar and Jammu till late this evening.

They said that light medium and heavy motor vehicles are crossing the Nashri-Banihal stretch of the highway towards Kashmir and Jammu, respectively, although at a slow pace.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir traffic department issued a fresh advisory for Sunday stating that subject to fair weather and good road conditions passenger light motor vehicles and HMVs will be allowed to ply on either side towards Srinagar and Jammu. Traffic authorities advised passengers and LMVs operators to undertake journeys on the Jammu-Srinagar Highway during the day time due to apprehension of landslides and shooting stones between the Ramban and Banihal sectors. Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary haltage between Ramban and Banihal especially near landslides, shooting stone prone areas.They further advised not to undertake journeys on Srinagar- Jammu National Highway without confirming the status of road from Traffic Control Units of Jammu, Srinagar, Udhampur and Ramban on Sunday.
