Ramban, Nov 4: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway (NH-44) remained open for two-way traffic of passenger Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) while one-way movement of heavy vehicles was allowed towards Jammu on Tuesday.

Traffic authorities said that the highway would remain open on Wednesday as well, allowing two-way movement of LMVs and one-way movement of heavy vehicles towards Kashmir.

Traffic officials monitoring vehicular movement in Ramban said that hundreds of LMVs plied on both sides between Jammu and Srinagar at a slow pace but crossed the stretch safely during the day.

Officials said that traffic movement remained slow due to single-lane stretches at Balli Nullah, Dewal, between Nashri and Dalwass, and between Maroog and Kishtwari Pattar.

The breakdown of a few heavy vehicles and the on-foot movement of nomadic families with their livestock towards Jammu also contributed to intermittent congestion.

Meanwhile, traffic authorities issued a fresh advisory for Wednesday, stating that subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs would be allowed to ply from both ends, while heavy vehicles would be permitted to move towards Kashmir.

Commuters and vehicle operators have been advised to follow lane discipline and avoid overtaking or wrong-lane driving to prevent traffic jams.

Meanwhile, dark clouds continue to hover over the Ramban and Udhampur regions since Tuesday evening, indicating the possibility of a change in weather conditions.
