Ramban, Apr 27:  The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic of Light Motor Vehicles and heavy vehicles on Saturday. However, the traffic authorities blocked the highway for an hour in the morning for road repair.

The road had been damaged due to rain and a mudslide road stretch had shrunken there.

The traffic authorities said that after road clearance, the highway remained open but the traffic movement remained slow due to slippery road conditions at construction sites and the narrow road stretches at many places between the Nashri and Banihal sectors.

Traffic officials monitoring the regulation of traffic in Ramban said that despite light rain in the morning, the highway remained open but the traffic movement remained slow due to slippery road conditions and single lane carriageway at Dalwass, Mehar Cafeteria, Panthyal Nachlana, Shalgari, Kishtwari Pathar, and poor road surface conditions at many places between Nashri and Banihal sectors.

They said that despite slow traffic movement, hundreds of LMVs and heavy vehicles crossed the Nashri-Banihal sector for their respective destinations without any interruption till late Saturday evening.

They said heavy load carriers were heading towards Kashmir and Jammu in a regulated manner.

Meanwhile, traffic officials at Traffic Control Unit (TCU) Ramban said that subject to fair weather and road clearance, LMVs and heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply on either side of the highway on Sunday.

However, they advised the vehicle operators and commuters not to undertake journeys on the highway without confirming the status of the road from TCU Srinagar, TCU Jammu, and TCU Udhampur on Sunday.
