Srinagar-Jammu National Highway closed for night repair work
Ramban, June 15: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was closed for scheduled night road repair works between the Nashri and Banihal sectors in the Ramban district on Saturday evening, traffic authorities said.
They stated that traffic would resume after the concerned road maintenance agency, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), completes its scheduled road repair works at different locations by Sunday morning.
Authorities said the highway was closed for all types of traffic movement on Saturday at 6 pm at Qazigund in Kashmir, 5 pm at Nagrota, and at 6 pm at the police check post Jakhani in Udhampur. However, road traffic between Udhampur and Banihal is being cleared.
They added that traffic will remain suspended on Saturday night and will resume on Sunday morning or when the road repair work is completed between Nashri and Banihal in the Ramban district.
Traffic authorities in Ramban said that both sides' traffic was suspended on the recommendations of the NHAI, which had intimated that urgent repair and maintenance work needed to be carried out on the highway between Ramban and Banihal during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.
They advised commuters and vehicle operators to avoid journeys on the highway until the road repair work is completed on Sunday morning.
Meanwhile, road traffic between Udhampur and Banihal was not cleared until late Saturday evening.
