Srinagar-Jammu highway remains open

Ramban, July 6: Despite light rain at vulnerable places between Nashri and Banihal sectors, the Srinagar- Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic of light medium vehicles, and one-way traffic of heavy vehicles for Srinagar on Saturday.

Traffic authorities said traffic movement remained slow due to the breakdown of seven heavy vehicles and due to single-lane road stretches at Dalwass, Mehar Cafeteria, and between Maroog and Kishtwar Pathar areas of Ramban.

Traffic officials monitoring traffic regulations said National Highway remained open for two-way traffic of light medium vehicles and one way traffic of Heavy vehicles for Kashmir.

They said heavy vehicles released from Jakhani, Udhampur are heading towards Kashmir in a regulated manner.

Meanwhile, traffic authorities said, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, light-medium vehicles carrying Shari Amarnath Ji Yatra pilgrims would be allowed to ply on either side of highway on Sunday.

Earlier on Friday , SSP Ramban Rohit Baskotra said that during the Amarnath Yatra traffic is plying on a one-way basis on highway. He said priority is being given to the scheduled Shri Amarnath Ji yatra convoy due to security reasons.

He said non-convoy vehicles either they are tourists or Shri Amarnath Yatra vehicles, have to cross sharp noon, Nagrota, Jammu, 1 pm Jakhani, Udhampur, 2 pm Chanderkote and 3 pm Banihal for Kashmir.

He said in view of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra and due to security concerns heavy vehicles are plying on a one-way basis.

SSP advised commuters, and drivers to follow traffic advisories issued from time to time by the traffic police headquarters in Jammu and Kashmir.
