The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has already given a green signal in this direction. This is a positive development.  It is being hoped that with the construction of Parimpora – Shalteng flyover, the problem of frequent and massive traffic jamming stands solved.

Already the construction work on three more flyovers on Srinagar Bypass Road at Bemina, Sanatnagar and Nowgam junctions is in progress. These projects have missed a number of deadlines from the beginning of construction work already in the past.

The delay in completion of work is causing lot of inconvenience to the commuters. Frequent traffic jams are witnessed on the diversion stretches. Reports say that the Bemina flyover will be completed soon but nothing is being said with authority when exactly the other two flyovers will get completed. Deadlines are being set officially but not met.

Thus the completion work gets delayed. These projects must be speedily completed so that the daily problems being faced by the commuters are solved.  The completion of the flyovers will help in a big way in dealing with massive traffic jamming on the junctions.

The construction work of other incomplete, and major, projects in Srinagar city too have to be completed in time. The work on new Noor Jehan Bridge on river Jhelum between Qamarwari and Noorbagh is pending for decades now. It has already missed a number of deadlines in the past due to slow pace of work. It is not still known when exactly the new bridge will get completed.

Because of delay in its completion, heavy traffic jamming is witnessed during peak hours of morning and evening on the old bridge, also known as Cement Kadal. The work can be speedily done on the incomplete projects during the ongoing summer months.

In autumn and later in winter the pace of work gets slow. The rough weather including snowfall and rainfalls hampers the work badly. The concerned departments must prefer speedy and qualitative work and never miss the deadlines.
