Baramulla, Oct 22: The Srinagar-Baramulla 4-lane highway project is advancing comprehensively, promising to significantly improve road connectivity and cut travel time between Baramulla and Srinagar.

Officials said that nearly 80 percent of the project has been completed, with key infrastructure such as the Sangrama flyover in Sopore already operational.

One of the major flyovers at Sangrama has been completed, while another at Delina is expected to be ready by next year. Two important bridges—one at Harthak Singhpora and another at Jheel Bridge Hanjiweera—have also been finished. “Once the project is completed, travel time between Srinagar and Baramulla will be reduced to around 45 minutes from the current one-and-a-half hours,” said an official associated with the project.

However, progress on the Baramulla-Uri double-lane highway has been slower. This project, which started after the Srinagar-Baramulla 4-lane, is being executed in phases.

Officials estimate that the Baramulla-Uri stretch will be completed by the end of 2027.

In addition to the main highways, two bypass roads—Pattan and Kanispora-Baramulla—are key components of the overall infrastructure plan to decongest towns and streamline traffic flow. The Pattan bypass, spanning approximately 11 kilometres from Pattan to Tappar, has cleared land acquisition hurdles, and construction is progressing steadily. “There was a minor issue related to missing land during the survey, but it has been addressed and notifications issued,” an official said. Once operational, the bypass is expected to eliminate recurring traffic jams at Pattan and ensure smoother movement towards Srinagar.

The Baramulla bypass road, measuring around 14.5 kilometres from Kanispora to Khanpora, aims to divert heavy traffic away from the main town. Work on this stretch, though slower than expected, is likely to pick up pace in the coming months.

Officials emphasised that the completion of the 4-lane highway and bypass roads will bring a major transformation in north Kashmir’s traffic scenario. “Once all segments are completed, the Srinagar-Baramulla route will not only cut travel time but also boost trade, tourism, and inter-district connectivity,” said Muhammad Aslam, an official of the executing agency.
