Srinagar Airport closed, civilian flights suspended
Srinagar, May 7: In the wake of heightened operations along the Line of Control (LoC), the Indian Air Force (IAF) has closed the airfield at Srinagar Airport, leading to a complete halt in civilian flight operations till May 10.
Confirming the closure, Srinagar Airport officials said that the airfield is closed, and no civil flights will be operated from Srinagar Airport today. The decision comes following Operation Sindoor, a precision strike by the Indian Armed Forces targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), in response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives.
The closure of Srinagar Airport is part of a broader suspension affecting airspace across Northern India. Airlines have been quick to issue advisories. Air India cancelled flights to and from several northern cities, including Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Amritsar, and Chandigarh, until at least noon on May 7. Two international flights en route to Amritsar have been rerouted to Delhi.
SpiceJet and IndiGo also confirmed disruptions. SpiceJet stated that airports in Dharamshala, Leh, Jammu, Srinagar, and Amritsar are closed until further notice. IndiGo added that flights to and from Bikaner are now also affected due to ongoing airspace restrictions.
Passengers have been urged to check flight statuses with their respective airlines before heading to airports, as the situation remains fluid amid escalating regional tensions.
The Defence Ministry said the strikes under Operation Sindoor were “focused, measured and non-escalatory.” The Indian Army posted on X, “Justice is Served,” marking a firm response to what the government described as a “horrific” terror act in Pahalgam.
