Sri Lankan parliamentary delegation meets Lok Sabha Speaker
New Delhi, Aug 28: A 24-member parliamentary delegation from Sri Lanka, led by the country’s Minister of Health and Mass Communication Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, called on Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla at the Parliament House complex on Thursday.
The delegation represents the Sri Lanka–India Parliamentary Friendship Association, with Dr. Jayatissa serving as its president. Welcoming the visiting lawmakers, Birla underlined the deep-rooted historical, cultural and civilisational ties between India and Sri Lanka.
He said the relationship has grown into a strong, multi-dimensional partnership, noting that Colombo holds a “special place” in New Delhi’s Neighbourhood First policy and Vision SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region). The interaction comes as both countries continue to step up parliamentary exchanges and people-to-people contacts, reinforcing their strategic partnership in the Indian Ocean region.
