Speculative exchange of fire in Akhnoor sector, no ceasefire violation: Army

Jammu, Jan 14: Army Sunday said that a speculative exchange of fire took place due to fog and poor visibility in Akhnoor sector along the International Border in Jammu and there was no ceasefire violation in the area.

It also described the speculative exchange of fire as a normal activity on forward posts.

Army issued a statement after the news of ceasefire on the Line of Control in Akhnoor sector was circulated on various media platforms.

“It has come to light that news of ceasefire violation on LoC in Akhnoor sector is circulating on various media platforms. I would like to clarify that no ceasefire has occurred. It is just a speculative exchange of fire due to fog and poor visibility, which is a normal activity on forward posts,” an official statement issued by PRO Defence said.

“The Sector where speculative firing has taken place is primarily the International Border (IB) sector and not LoC,” the statement added.
