Speculative CASO at Abi Guzar

Srinagar, Feb 4: In a bid to strengthen preventive security measures and enhance area domination, Srinagar Police, in coordination with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), on Wednesday conducted a speculative Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) at Abi Guzar area and its adjoining localities.

Officials said the joint operation was launched based on routine security assessment and intelligence-led inputs, aimed at maintaining heightened vigilance in sensitive pockets of the city.

Security forces established temporary checkpoints and carried out systematic searches at multiple locations, including commercial establishments, lanes and select residential areas.

During the operation, movement of vehicles and pedestrians was regulated for a brief period to facilitate thorough verification and frisking. Police officials said the exercise was conducted in a calibrated and people-friendly manner, ensuring minimal inconvenience to residents and shopkeepers.

“The CASO was part of routine preventive measures to deter any potential threats and reinforce a sense of security among the public,” a senior police officer said, adding that such operations help security agencies familiarise themselves with the local terrain and population dynamics.

No arrests were made and no incriminating material was recovered during the search, officials said, noting that the operation passed off peacefully without any untoward incident. After the completion of the exercise, normal traffic movement and daily activities were restored in the area.

Police said similar area-based security drills are being conducted periodically across Srinagar to maintain law and order and to ensure round-the-clock vigilance, particularly in crowded markets and residential neighbourhoods.
