Special transport service started for Shankaracharya temple devotees
Srinagar, May 30: In a bid to facilitate the smooth travel of devotees to Shankaracharya temple here, authorities have started a special service to ferry them. According to the officials, the service was flagged off on Thursday by the officials of RTO Srinagar and the City traffic police.
Officials said that the dedicated service will ferry devotees from Zabarwan Park to Shankaracharya temple. They said that the service will not only facilitate the smooth travel of devotees but also help streamline the traffic at the Shankaracharya junction.
SSP Traffic (Srinagar) Muzaffar Ahmad Shah, said that the spot has a good footfall of tourists and devotees and often sees a major influx of vehicles. He said that the initiative will not only be convenient for devotees but also save them from getting overcharged.
“It will streamline traffic as there will be dedicated vehicles to ferry the devotees. The huge influx of vehicles on the narrow road leading to the temple hinders the traffic. This will also help in streamlining the traffic on the Boulevard Road junction connecting to the Shankaracharya road,” Shah said.
Shah said they are also planning to start a dedicated service for visitors visiting Parimahal so that traffic will be streamlined at that junction too.
To mention, 15 tempo traveller vehicles have been pressed in the service, and the official said that the number of vehicles will increase in the coming weeks.
The commuters on the Boulevard Road said that such services should also be started at other junctions along the Boulevard, like Parimahal. They said the huge influx of tourists jams the roads and creates inconvenience for everyone.
“We hope that it will help in streamlining the traffic. Commuters are facing inconvenience due to a large number of tourist vehicles. If there will be few dedicated services for the tourists that will help in streamlining the traffic,” said Altaf Ahmad, a commuter.
