Srinagar, Jul 20: Passport Seva Programme (PSP) under the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India is committed to providing swift and transparent passport related services to citizens. In line with this objective, the Ministry has introduced Mobile Passport Van Services to ensure seamless passport facilities for applicants across various jurisdictions, including remote, inaccessible, rural, tribal areas.

The van can travel upto 150 kms every day and can cater to 40 appointments daily, said a press release.

Dr KJ Srinivasa, IFS, Joint Secretary (PSP) & Chief Passport Officer, Ministry of External Affairs flagged off the dedicated Mobile Passport Seva Van under Regional Passport Office Srinagar on July 19 on the banks of Dal lake. Keeping in view the huge demand for passports from the region due to upcoming Haj pilgrimage 2026 and upholding the initiative of Ministry of External Affairs, “Passport Seva Aapke Dwar”, the van will be in Kargil from July 21-25. This initiative reaffirms the Ministry of External Affairs’ commitment in making passport services more accessible, efficient and citizen friendly.

Dr K J Srinivasa also inspected the functioning of the RPO and Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) Srinagar and exhorted the staff to uphold high standards of service to the citizens and continue to strive for excellence under the upgraded Version 2.0 of Passport Seva Project issuing e-Passports on time. He also launched the first edition of Rajbasha Hindi Patrika “Chinar” under RPO Srinagar to promote Rajbasha in the region.

Chief Passport officer Dr K.J. Srinivasa also paid a courtesy call on the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir Shri Manoj Sinha and appraised him of the various new initiatives being taken by MEA on passport related matters.
