Anantnag, Jul 17: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Anantnag, convened a meeting on Thursday to promote the nationwide campaign ‘Mediation for the Nation.’

The meeting, chaired by Principal District and Sessions Judge, Anantnag, Tahir Khurshid Raina, was attended by all judicial officers of the district, executive members of the Bar Association Anantnag, trained mediators, and a large number of advocates.

The campaign, conceptualised by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) in collaboration with the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee of the Supreme Court of India, is being carried out under the guidance of the Chief Justice of India and Justice Suryakant, executive chairman of NALSA, with the support of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

Speaking at the event, Raina outlined the objectives of the 90-day intensive mediation drive, which aims to resolve a large volume of pending cases in district, taluka, and high courts across the country.

“Mediation is not only economical but also ensures the quick resolution of disputes without the rigours of prolonged litigation,” Raina said, highlighting key advantages of the process.

He emphasised that mediation is confidential, relationship-preserving, and helps ease the burden on courts while empowering disputing parties to control the outcome.

“Lawyers are not only officers of the court but also torchbearers of justice. Your proactive role in mediation can transform the landscape of dispute resolution in our district,” he added.

The meeting concluded with an interactive session, during which participants discussed practical steps to implement mediation in pending matters. A collective resolve was made to ensure the success of the “Mediation for the Nation” campaign in Anantnag.
