Sopore Police nab 2 long-evading absconders
Sopore, Oct 23: Continuing its sustained crackdown on absconders and proclaimed offenders, Sopore Police on Thursday arrested two individuals who had been evading arrest for several years in separate cases.
The first, Saleem Ahmad Sheikh, son of Fojia Sheikh and a resident of Parimpora (currently at Sheikh Colony, Makhdoom Sahib, Srinagar), was wanted in FIR No. 29/2003 under Sections 379 and 511 RPC of Police Station Dangiwacha. He had been on the run since 2003, and after persistent efforts, the police successfully traced and apprehended him.
The second absconder, Bashir Ahmad Mir, son of Ali Mohammad Mir from Lachipora, Handwara, was wanted in FIR No. 134/2012 under Section 379 RPC of Police Station Tarzoo. He had been evading arrest since 2016 and was caught following meticulous tracking by the Sopore Police team.
Authorities said that after completion of legal formalities, both individuals will be presented before the courts of competent jurisdiction.
Officials added that the ongoing drive against absconders will continue, with several long-evading fugitives already apprehended in recent weeks.
