Sopore Fruit Mandi set for modern transformation under Rs 9.78 Cr project
Sopore, Dec 8: In a significant boost to the infrastructure of Asia's second largest fresh fruit trading hub, tender details for the comprehensive upgradation of Fruit and Vegetable Market, Fruit Mandi Sopore, have been officially released. The prestigious project, amounting to Rs 978.32 lakh, aims to strengthen facilities for growers, traders, and all stakeholders associated with the mandi.
MLA Sopore, Irshad Rasool in a statement said that as part of the major development push, several development works have been tendered.
This includes upgradation of Kissan Ghar, including the construction of an additional storey and provision of modern furniture at Rs 56.30 lakh. Modernisation of the drainage system to ensure smooth functioning and improved sanitation at Rs 64.96 lakh. Upgradation and macadamization of internal roads for seamless movement of vehicles and goods at Rs 249.75 lakh.
The other value addition includes construction of a state-of-the-art Shopping Complex inside the mandi at Rs 352.67 lakh. Besides, construction of one Auction Pharia to streamline trading operations at Rs 126.15 lakh and improved W.C. Facilities for better hygiene and convenience at 28.49 lakh, the MLA added. "These development works are expected to transform the Fruit Mandi Sopore into a more efficient, organised, and modern marketplace, ultimately uplifting the local horticulture economy and easing business operations for thousands of growers and traders, " he said.
The fruit growers and traders associated with the mandi and other people of Sopore have extended heartfelt gratitude to Horticulture Minister Javaid Ahmad Dar and MLA Kar for their efforts in securing and initiating these crucial projects. Their leadership and dedication continue to play a vital role in advancing the welfare of the horticulture community and strengthening Sopore’s position as a major trade centre in Kashmir, said the growers and traders.
