Srinagar, Oct 26: Prominent playback singer Sonu Nigam on Sunday enthralled the audience with his performances at Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) on the banks of Dal Lake here.

The renowned singer arrived in Srinagar on Saturday to perform inn a concert. On Sunday, Sonu Nigam, while performing on the stage, paid tributes to the late Muhammad Rafi, a renowned Bollywood singer.

"Had Rafi Sahab been alive, it would have been his 100th anniversary in singing," he said and performed on some Bollywood songs of Muhammad Rafi as a tribute to the legendary singer.

Sonu Nigam called his father, Agam Kumar Nigam, also a renowned singer, to the stage during the live concert and performed together to enthrall the audience.

He later thanked the people of Kashmiris besides the organisers, for giving him an opportunity to perform in Kashmir.

He also received praise after he paused his live concert when the Azaan (the Islamic call for prayer) was heard from a nearby masjid.

Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha said that Sonu Nigam’s concert would significantly boost the tourism sector of the J&K UT and provide a valuable platform for local artists to showcase their talent.

Srinagar-based singer Qazi Touqueer, who gained national recognition by winning the music reality show Fame Gurukul in 2005, performed the opening act at the concert. Kashmiri singer, producer, and composer Rauhan Malik also performed on the occasion.  Qazi Touqeer, was overwhelmed with emotions during his performance. Addressing the crowd, the artist recalled the struggles he faced to secure a stage in Kashmir."I just wanted to perform on stage and had brought my own standee with me. When I carried that standee to express myself, someone asked me if I was trying to win the election. I told him, 'Whoever wins, just respect the artist, that's all," Qazi shared.

He expressed his gratitude to NDTV for providing him with the opportunity that had eluded him for years.The event was organised by NDTV Good Times.
