Sonamarg successfully hosts 8th National Snowshoe Championship

Sonamarg, Feb 19: The beautiful valley of Sonamarg witnessed a thrilling display of skill, endurance and passion for snow sports as it hosted the inaugural 8th National Snowshoe Championship 2024.

The championship, held for the first time in Sonamarg, concluded on Monday with the prize distribution ceremony.

Chief Executive Officer of Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA) Farooq Ahmad Baba and General Secretary of J&K Snowshoe Association Altaf Ahmed awarded the winners with gold, silver and bronze medals and mementoes. Cash prizes were also announced to motivate the participants to continue their dedication towards the snowshoeing sport.

The three-day event saw fierce competition among snowshoe athletes from various states of India. The competitors showcased their strength and technique while traversing the snow-covered slopes of Sonamarg, considered among the toughest snow terrains.

The successful conduct of the championship has firmly placed Sonamarg as a prime destination for snow sports in India. It has also provided a major boost to adventure tourism in the region.

The Hoteliers Association, Sonamarg played a key role by providing accommodation and hospitality support to the participants and spectators. Their efforts ensured comfort for everyone involved during the entire duration of the competition.
