'Sonamarg aims for sustainable tourism model'
Sonamarg, Jul 4: In a push to elevate Sonamarg’s tourism infrastructure and promote it as a model for sustainable mountain tourism, Bilal Mukhtar, Chief Executive Officer of the Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA), inaugurated a new Barista Café at Four Points by Sheraton on Wednesday.
The new outlet, nestled in the scenic surroundings of the mountain town, blends premium coffee service with a lounge-style ambience, catering to both international tourists and domestic visitors.
Speaking at the inauguration, Mukhtar emphasised the importance of high-quality amenities in building a lasting tourism economy in Sonamarg.
“Our aim is not just seasonal tourism. We envision Sonamarg as a benchmark for sustainable mountain hospitality,” he said.
The café launch was part of the CEO’s broader visit to the area, during which he interacted with locals, hoteliers, and tourism stakeholders. Key discussions focused on improving waste management, road connectivity, and coordination between agencies to support long-term tourism development.
Local business leaders hailed the café’s launch as a value addition that could boost tourist satisfaction, extend visitor stays, and increase local revenue. The presence of a reputed brand like Barista, they noted, enhances the appeal of the property and complements Sonamarg’s growing hospitality offerings.
The SDA continues to work toward making Sonamarg a year-round destination with a focus on sustainable growth, modern infrastructure, and community engagement.
