Sombre emotions at processions in Jammu
Jammu, July 17: On the 10th day of Muharram, sombre emotions pervaded the air as an impressive procession to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Husain (AS) and his 72 companions was taken out from Imam Bargah Sofi Shah Peer Mitha Jammu, under the aegis of Anjuman-e-Imamia Jammu on Wednesday.
Mourners from different regions of J&K and outside participated in the procession to pay homage to Imam Husain (AS), the grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH).
A brief Majlis was delivered by Maulana Syed Safdar Husain Bakiri Nowgama Sadat. In his address, he stressed the teachings of Imam Husain (AS) and revealed why it was important to follow the path of Karbala.
After passing through the traditional route, the procession culminated at Karbala complex Wazarat road, where majlis Sham-e-Ghariban was also delivered by Syed Safdar Husain Bakiri.
A procession was also taken out from New Plots by Anjuman-e-Haidery New Plot under the leadership of Abdul Sameer Qureshi. This procession merged with the main procession at Imam Bargah Sofi Shah Peer Mitha.
Zuljinah procession was also taken out and thousands of mourners and devotees from other religions also attended the procession to take blessings.
Addressing the media, president Anjuman-e-Imamia, Jammu, Syed Amanat Shah said, “On this day, Imam Husain (AS) and his 72 companions laid down their lives and saved humanity and the values of Islam, battling against the tyranny of Yazid, the ruler and Caliph of Muslim Ummah at that time.”
J&K Waqf Board member and senior journalist Sohail Kazmi, while addressing the media, said, “It is our duty to spread the message of Imam Husain (AS) that we should never bow down in front of the oppressor.” He thanked Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and the administration for their role and support during all the days of Muharram.
General Secretary Anjuman, Prof Sujat Khan said, “Ashura gives a message to the entire humanity that we should stand firm against the oppressor and never forgo our responsibilities even though we need to sacrifice ourselves for the cause.”
Vice President Anjuman-e-Imamia Syed Afaq Husain Kazmi thanked all organizations for extending their full cooperation and support during the procession by installing different stalls as refreshments for the mourners.
Vice president Anjuman, in his vote of thanks, extended gratitude to Anjuman-e-Haidery, Anjumn-e-Husaini, Kargil Colony Bathindi, All Ladakh Muslim Students Association Jammu (ALMSAJ), administration of MESWL and people from Poonch, Rajouri, Gursai, Surankote, Mandi, Chanderkot, and Kashmir for showing exemplary discipline during the procession.
