Softball Championship kicks off in Srinagar with 500 athletes from 14 districts
Srinagar, Mar 26: The Softball Championship 2024-25 got off to a grand start at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar, with over 500 athletes from 14 districts of Jammu and Kashmir competing across various categories.
As per a press release issued, organised by the J&K Softball Association in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council, the three-day event aims to boost the sport's growing popularity in the region. The Divisional Sports Officer Kashmir, J&K Sports Council, while speaking on the occasion, highlighted the steps taken by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council and J&K Softball Association for development.

Softball is a recognised and regular event in the Olympic Games and Asian Games.
She said since a few years, the softball sport is gaining momentum and achieving great heights in Jammu & Kashmir, besides making inroads in every nook and corner of the Union Territory. She lauded the efforts of the organisers for uplifting sports and games in Jammu & Kashmir.
Over 500 athletes and officials from 14 districts of UT J&K are participating in the championship in the junior (boys & girls), junior (boys & girls), and senior (men & women) categories.
"The 3-day championship, which is being sponsored by J&K Sports Council, will conclude on March 27, 2025.
Manager Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar, sports personalities, district unit heads, sports lovers, and international softball athletes were present in the event.
