Srinagar, Apr 27: Police on Sunday said that it have detained social media handlers who have spread false information regarding Ajas encounter in north Kashmir's Bandipora district.

In a handout to GNS, the police said that the Bandipora police had received  information through multiple sources that some persons have circulated false and fabricated narratives through their Social Media handles regarding an encounter at Kulnar Bazipora Ajas on 24-04-2025.

In this connection Bandipora Police have registered a criminal Case against all those Social Media account holders who have circulated these false stories on social media platforms.

The criminalised act of all those involved persons has endangered country security scenario and has a tendency of creating law and order problem in the region, he said.

Accordingly taking cognizance of the illegal act Bandipora Police has registered an FIR NO.71/25 u/s 152 BNS ,66 (f)  IT Act in Police station Bandipora and investigation of the case has been started.

So for few involved persons have been apprehended for their involvement in this criminal act for questioning purpose and further action shall be initiated as warranted under Law, he said.

Stringent legal action, including prosecution under relevant laws, will be taken against those found misusing digital platforms for unlawful purposes, reads the statement.
