Social activists, administration take out protest marches in Shopian, Pulwama
Pulwama/Shopian, Oct 21: To denounce the terror attack in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, people from different walks of life on Monday evening took out candle light marches in south Kashmir’s Pulwama and Shopian districts.
Late on Sunday evening, seven civilians--a local doctor and six migrant workers--were shot dead by terrorists near a construction site in Gangangeer area.
Scores of civil society members, students and local residents in Pulwama took out a candle light march to deplore the attack. The march was led by Mudasir Dar, a prominent social activist from the area.
Dar said that they wanted to send out a clear message to the assailants that the people were against such barbaric acts. He said that they stood united and would not allow the divisive plans of those seeking to create rifts among communities to succeed.
“We called for stern action against those involved in such barbaric acts”, Dar said.
In neighbouring Shopian district, civil and police administration took out a similar march to denounce the killings. The march was led by DDC chairperson Bilkees Jan and Deputy Commissioner Shahid Saleem. Senior police officials from the district also participated in the march.
The participants deplored the killings and emphasised on peace and harmony.
