Snowfall in upper reaches, rains in plains affect life in Ramban district

Ramban, Feb 19: Snowfall in upper reaches and incessant rain in low-lying areas had thrown normal life out of gear since Sunday afternoon in this hilly district of Jammu region.

The upper reaches of Banihal, Gool, Batote, Pogal Paristan, Senabati, Neel Mahu, Mangit, Sarachi, Jawahar Tunnel, Neel, and Rajgagh witnessed a fresh spell of snowfall while entire low-lying areas of the district witnessed heavy rainfall across the district on Monday forced people to remain indoors.

The majority of the link roads leading to Tehsil and district Headquarter Ramban remained cut off due to the closure of the National Highway and electricity and water supply was affected in the majority of interior areas of the district on Monday due to prevailing inclement weather across the district.

After a slight improvement in the weather on Monday afternoon restoration work for essential services started by the concerned agencies. However electric and water supply remained erratic in the majority of villages across the districts.

Markets of Batote, Ramban, Chanderkote Ramsoo Banihal and Ukhral wore a deserted look and most shops remained closed as shopkeepers preferred to remain confined to their homes due to intense cold waves.

It is pertained to mention here that higher reaches of Banihal, Ramsu, Khari, Ukhral, Rajgarh, Batote and Gool witnessed heavy snow resulting in the closure of scores of roads.
