Snowbound roads in remote areas
Roads in several remote and far flung areas continue to be snowbound and no effort has been made to clear snow from some of these roads. Subsequently, the people in the areas are facing hardships in their movement.
The patients needing emergency treatment are not being taken in vehicles to the hospitals. Reports from Jabri-Bajaldar area in Karnah said that the local residents had to walk on foot for several hours to take a pregnant woman to hospital for delivery.
There are similar cases in other areas also. Not only the pregnant women but even other patients, needing emergency treatment suffer. The authorities must swing into action and start snow clearance operations in these areas to put an end to the hardships being faced by the people. Hospital roads must particularly be given the preference.
The residents in snow bound areas face several other problems also due to absence of road connectivity. Their movement to other areas gets hampered thus affecting their normal life. Impact on their normal life affects their financial condition also because the working people are not able to move out and earn.
The earning of shopkeepers also get affected in view of the reduced movement of people. In case of fire incidents, the fire tenders are not able to reach the spot and extinguish fire. The problems in day-to-day life for the residents increase due to blocked roads.
Efforts should be made so that people do not remain completely cut off by road for months together after a heavy snowfall. They suffer in silence because of the blocked roads. In past patients needing emergency treatment have sometimes died in absence of the treatment.
Now the authorities have modern snow clearance machines. These machines should be used to clear the roads so that the residents can heave a sigh of relief.
People living in far flung areas have similar rights on the facilities including the snow clearance machines as the people living in plain areas.
The advancement in science and technology must also reach to the people in these areas so that their lives are made easier and difficulties and problems minimised.
