Snow, rains persist at low intensity in Kashmir; Jhelum flowing below alert levels amid flood concerns

Srinagar, April 29: With snow over higher reaches and rains continuing in plains, inclement weather remain persistent  in Kashmir on Monday night.

While water levels of Jhelum and its tributaries are seeing a rise as per the Irrigation & Flood Control (I&FC) department,  administration asked people not to panic amid the forceast of dry weather from Tuesday.

However,  a plan has been drawn incase of floods in the city even as an emergency control room has been setup to meet exigencies.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Bilal Ahmad visited the several areas of the city to assess the ground situation.

"Still raining at many places of  Kashmir & snowing on Zojila-Drass axis & over higher reaches of J&K & Ladakh. Expect further decrease in rain/snowfall as the time progresses," said Sonam Lotus, an official of Indian Meteorological department.

Lotus said that no rain is expected from tomorrow forenoon but brief spell of rain and thunderstorm is possible anytime after 2:00 PM.

The latest reading of gauge along the Jhelum's path recorded at 11:00pm Monday by the I&FC department are as follows:

1) Sangam (21'/25')=18.08ft
2)Pampore (4.5/5.0)=4.13m
3) MunshiBagh (18'/21')16.09ft.
4) Asham (14.0'/16.5)=9.58ft.
5) Wullar (1578.00)=1577.22m

1) Vishow Nallah at Khudwani (7.75/8.50)=8.00m
2) Rambiyara Nallah at Wachi (5.4/5.7)=1.93m
3) Lidder Nallah at Batkoot (1.5/1.65)=0.54m
4) Doodhganga Nallah at Barzulla (3.65/3.8)=2.49m
5) Sindh Nallah at Doderhama (3.65/3.9)=2.22m
