Snow clearance work on Zojila pass resumes

Ganderbal, Jan 7: With the improvement in weather conditions, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) on Tuesday resumed the snow clearance work on the Zojila pass along Srinagar-Leh highway, following the fresh spell of heavy snowfall on Sunday.

An official said that with the improvement in weather conditions, the machinery was pressed into work for snow clearance on the Zojila pass which experiences about 2 ft of snow on Sunday.

The road was closed as a precautionary measure and the road clearance work was started early Tuesday morning.

An official said that once the road is cleared the traffic movement will be restored on the highway. The authorities have urged the drivers to take precautions while travelling on the road. Meanwhile, famous tourist destination Sonamarg in Ganderbal district also received a spell of moderate snowfall which draped the picturesque tourist resort in a white blanket besides a dip in the temperature.
