Snow clearance ops on Srinagar-Jammu NH taken up on war-footing basis: SSP Traffic Rural

Qazigund, Dec 28: Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic (Rural) Kashmir, Ravinder Pal Singh on Saturday said that snow clearance operations on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway have been taken up on war-footing basis.

SSP Traffic (Rural) Kashmir told news agency KNO that the traffic on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway has been suspended from both sides due to fresh snowfall. He said no vehicles are being allowed to ply on the highway, as men and machinery have been pressed into services to clear the snow from the road.

He said that at present nearly 350 heavy motor vehicles and 150 light motor vehicles are stranded on the highway. “It has been snowing continuously. We are trying to clear the vehicles stuck on the highway first. Our advice to the commuters is not to embark on any journey on the highway till the weather improves and snow is cleared,” he added.

The SSP Traffic (Rural) Kashmir said that snow clearance operations would gain momentum after the snowfall stops. “We are functioning as a team and collective efforts are being put to provide all possible help to the people,” he said.
