SMVDU gets NMC nod for 1st MBBS batch
Srinagar, Oct 14: National Medical Commission (NMC) has given a green signal on the seat approval to the first batch of 50 MBBS students at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME), Jammu.
The admission process is set to start with the J&K Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (JKBOPEE) issuing notice on Wednesday.
The NMC seat matrix update on October 13, 2025, has paved the way for the institute’s inclusion in NEET-UG 2025 counseling for Jammu and Kashmir.
Confirming the availability of the 50 seats at the institute, Chairperson JKBOPEE, Prof Minu Mahajan, said that after the approval of 50 seats for the institute, the seats would be available for filling soon.
“We will issue a notification on Wednesday,” she said.
An official at SMVDIME said that the approval for the first batch had been received, and the seats were referred to BOPEE.
“This is our first MBBS batch and we expect it to be on campus soon,” he said.
Prof Mahajan said admission to other seats in existing medical colleges, which had been enhanced recently, had already been completed.
“We have four vacant seats for which we will be issuing a notice,” she said.
The institute’s integration with a 500-bed superspecialty hospital at the Kakryal campus is a milestone for the private health sector in J&K.
The approval comes after clearance from the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board in August 2023 and formal sanction by the Union Health Minister in September.
