SMVDU conducts orientation session for honours, minor specialisation
Jammu, Apr 10: An orientation session for B Tech 2023, batch students was organised by the Academic Affair Section, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) at the Matrika Auditorium, SMVDU on Thursday.
The session, as per an SMVDU spokesperson, aimed to familiarize students with the wide range of Honours and Minor Specializations offered by various engineering departments, enabling them to tailor their academic paths according to their interests and industry trends.
The event commenced with opening remarks by Prof (Dr) Balbir Singh, Dean, Academic Affairs.
Dr Balbir Singh extended his heartfelt gratitude to Prof (Dr) Pragati Kumar, Vice Chancellor, SMVDU, for his unwavering support and for making the event possible through his continued encouragement and guidance.
“He acknowledged the Vice Chancellor’s farsighted vision towards holistic student development and the overall growth of the institution, which continues to inspire and shape the university’s academic initiatives,” spokesperson said.
Dr Balbir Singh encouraged students to pursue academic excellence and take full advantage of the diverse specialisation options.
The orientation highlighted a rich bouquet of Honors and Minor specializations designed to equip students with domain-specific expertise and interdisciplinary knowledge.
The students, as per spokesperson, will be able to choose Honors or minor specialisation in various cutting-edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence and Information System Security; VLSI Design; Multimedia Technology Millimetre Wave Technology; Structural Engineering; Environmental Engineering; Power Electronics and Drivers; System and Control; Robotics and Automation and 3D Printing and Technology.
“The orientation session proved to be a significant step in empowering students to make informed decisions about their academic trajectories and enhance their readiness for future industry and research opportunities,” the spokesperson said.
Dr V K Dogra, Head, School of Civil Engineering; Dr Sunanda Gupta Head, School of Computer Science and Engineering; Prof Kumud Ranjan Jha, Head School of Electrical Engineering and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; Dr Anil Kumar Bhardwaj Head SoECE and Dr Yatheshth Anand, Head, School of Mechanical Engineering presented the students with Honors and Minor Specialization areas available in the respective schools.
An interactive session provided students with the opportunity to clarify doubts, gain clarity on eligibility, curriculum structure and career prospects and understand the scope and structure of each programme.
Dr Shafaq Rasool, Associate Dean, Academic Affairs delivered the formal vote of thanks. She also encouraged students to take advantage of such events in making an informative decision regarding their careers and strive for excellence.
The event was moderated by Amook Sharma and Samragyee, MSc Biotechnology final-year students.
