SMVD Narayana Superspeciality Hospital launches outreach OPD in Srinagar
Srinagar, Oct 15: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi (SMVD) Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Katra, has launched a new outreach OPD in Srinagar at Kashmir Clinics Central, Karan Nagar.
According to a press note, this initiative brings advanced ENT and cochlear implant services closer to patients in the Kashmir Valley, making it easier for them to access specialized care without the need for long-distance travel.
The Outreach OPD will be led by Dr Rohan Gupta, a highly skilled ENT and Cochlear Implant Surgeon, who is also an expert in a variety of other ENT surgeries. Dr Gupta will offer consultations on the second Monday of every month next OPD falls on November 11, 2024. During the inaugural OPD on October 14 ,2024, he saw 73, many of whom were congenitally deaf and mute, underscoring the pressing need for these services in the region.
“With more than 96 successful cochlear implant surgeries to its credit, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital has transformed the lives of patients with severe hearing impairments. Seeing a growing number of patients from Kashmir, the hospital decided to establish this Outreach OPD to provide continuity of care locally. Patients will no longer need to travel 300 km to Katra for follow-ups, reducing both travel stress and costs,”the press release said.
Kashmir Clinics Central, Karan Nagar, a healthcare facility in Srinagar, provides an ideal platform for the OPD. The clinic is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment facilities, ensuring patients have access to high-quality care. This collaboration aims to make specialised ENT services, including cochlear implants and other ENT surgeries, more accessible to the region, the press release added.
Dr Rohan Gupta emphasised the importance of this initiative, saying, "We are committed to making advanced ENT treatments available locally in Srinagar. Many patients, particularly children with hearing impairments, require regular follow-ups, and traveling long distances for these services is challenging for families. This Outreach OPD is designed to provide consistent care, including cochlear implants and other ENT surgeries, right at the patient's doorstep." He also stressed upon importance of Early detection ( Through NBHS) and Early intervention in cases of hearing loss to achieve optimum outcomes. He urged the professionals of valley to refer early and encourage families to seek right treatment depending upon hearing loss. He highlighted various factors which can be cause of congenital hearing loss.
