Smart City Mission

Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo has called for completing all the projects of Smart City Mission (SCM) in Srinagar and Jammu by their stipulated timelines without any fail.

According to reports he gave the directions while taking appraisal of the operational preparedness of all the ongoing, and till now completed projects, of SCM.

It is being hoped now that after his directions the pace of work will gain momentum wherever it had unnecessarily slowed down and the projects are completed within time.

The unnecessary delay not only leads to more inconvenience to the people but also increases the project cost. Besides speedy work, there is a need for better coordination among various wings, executing the developmental works on the ground.

Sometimes the lack of coordination creates confusion and also problems in the work. The work on Srinagar Smart Projects was almost simultaneously started in various parts of the city early this year. The roads and footpaths were dug on large scale resulting in problems in vehicular traffic movement.

Frequent traffic jamming was being witnessed on various roads. The movement of public transport including passenger buses was disallowed through Residency Road, Lal Chowk, Moulana Azad Road and adjacent areas.

The movement continues to remain suspended through the areas since then. There is an immediate need to complete the incomplete work there and restore passenger buses' movement so that the commuters are not put to further inconvenience.

The shopkeepers in these area say that their business was hit to some extent because of the absence of public transport. However, they are happy with the development work saying development is equally important.

Despite facing inconvenience, the residents in other areas also expressed similar views. However, the only concern among the people is unnecessary delay in the completion of some of the works and the projects. They have been advocating timely completion of all projects.

A number of major projects have been already completed and traffic movement is normal on such roads. The completion of the work has not only helped in the development of these areas, but also availability of more facilities.

It has added to the beauty of those areas of the city. Avoiding of unnecessary delay in completing the work and the projects is important. Now, the direction from the top to complete all the projects by their stipulated timelines is going to have a positive impact on the ongoing works.
