SKUAST-K showcases drone, nano fertilizer solutions for smart farming

Srinagar, Mar 19: SKUAST-K's Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Ganderbal organised a training and demonstration programme on "Use of Nano Urea for Resource Conservation & Enhanced Fertilizer Use Efficiency" on Tuesday.

The event, held in collaboration with IFFCO Srinagar, highlighted smart farming practices through a live drone demonstration and the promotion of nano fertilizers for sustainable agriculture.

Dr Dil Mohammad Moqdoomi, Director of Extension, graced the event as the chief guest, while Sukhhpal Singh, State Head of IFFCO, was the Guest of Honor. Attendees included the CEO of Khyber Greens, J&K Bank's Manager from Shuhama, KVK scientists, and farmers from across the district.

The Director of Extension emphasised the benefits of using nano fertilizers, neem-based pesticides, and bio-fertilizers for promoting organic farming. He also discussed the use of drone technology for increasing precision in agriculture and outlined future steps for KVK Ganderbal to support the farming community.

Dr Ishfaq Abidi, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Ganderbal, provided a comprehensive overview of drone technology in agriculture. He highlighted its applications in crop health monitoring, yield estimation, pest detection, field mapping, livestock monitoring, and farm security, emphasizing how drones improve precision in agricultural practices.

Sukhpal Singh, State Head of IFFCO, described the organization's role in promoting sustainable agriculture by providing timely and adequate fertilizers to farmers. He also highlighted IFFCO's commitment to health and the environment while emphasizing the importance of nano fertilizers for better crop production.

During the technical session, detailed presentations covered the utilization of agricultural drones for fertilizer spraying, demonstrating how drones can assist farmers in maximizing input use, reducing crop scouting time, and improving variable-rate prescriptions in real time.

Nano Urea, Nano DAP, and Sagarika bio-stimulants were distributed among the participating farmers, with over forty farmers from the district attending the programme.
