Srinagar, Sep 4: In a significant development, the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Kashmir (SKUAST-K) has figured among the top performing universities across the country in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) announced by the Ministry of Education (MoE) on Thursday.

As per the NIRF ranking, SKUAST-K has secured 3rd rank among the 74 State Agricultural Universities (SAUs), 7th rank among 78 agricultural universities across the country, and 36th rank among all State Public Universities (SPUs) across the country, assessed by NIRF.

SKUAST-K has also secured 75th rank among all Public and Private Universities and stands at 94th in the overall category out of 4045 institutions.

The overall category of institutions includes universities, colleges, engineering and technology institutions, management schools, research institutions, and pharmacy colleges.

Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K Prof Nazir Ganaie congratulated the varsity officials, faculty, and all other employees for their dedication and teamwork, which, he said, resulted in the improvement in the NIRF ranking 2025.

“I credit the achievement to our policies, the hard work of the officers, faculty, staff, and students. I am thankful to the government for imposing their trust in us and providing support from time to time,” VC SKUAST-K said.

“We shall strive further to improve qualitatively to matter more to society,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha, who is also the Chancellor of J&K Universities, commended the varsity for improvement in NIRF ranking and termed it commendable achievement and a testament to transformative efforts to create world-class teaching and research institutions.

“In agriculture and allied sectors, SKUAST-K has achieved the 7th rank and SKUAST-J the 23rd position. IIT Jammu, NIT Srinagar, and IIM Jammu have figured among the top 100 institutes in engineering and management categories, while SMVDU has earned a place in the top 25 for architecture. I congratulate all universities and institutes for this remarkable accomplishment,” the Office of the LG posted on X.

The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar has also improved its position in the NIRF 2025, moving up six places to secure the 73rd rank in the engineering category.

Last year, the institute was ranked 79th.

NIT Srinagar maintained its position in the 101-150 band in the overall category.
