SKUAST-K organises seminar on conservation of Wular Lake
Srinagar, Oct 25: The Division of Fisheries Resource Management at the Faculty of Fisheries, SKUAST-Kashmir, Rangil, Ganderbal, organised a two-day seminar entitled “Fish Diversity and Conservation of Wular Lake: Insights and Implications” on 22 and 23 October held at both the Faculty of Fisheries in Rangil and Bandipora.
The seminar was sponsored by the Wular Conservation and Management Authority (WUCMA).
Students from post-graduate and doctoral degree programmes of the faculty participated in the event.
Special lectures on the conservation and management of Wular Lake were delivered by experts. The inaugural function took place on 22 October at Rangil, where the Organizing Secretary of the seminar, Dr Tasaduq Hussain, provided an overview of the various activities planned for the two-day event.
The inaugural session was presided over by Prof (Dr) Haroon Rashid Naik, Director of Research at SKUAST-Kashmir, who emphasised the importance of biodiversity and the conservation of aquatic resources. Dr Naik commended the faculty's efforts in organising the programme.
In his welcome address, Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries, Dr Farooz Ahmad Bhat, discussed the current status and issues related to fish biodiversity, sustainable fishery practices, and the Jhelum River System, including Wular Lake.
Owais Farooq Mir, Project Coordinator of WUCMA, attended the event as guest of honour and delivered a comprehensive presentation on the conservation and management measures. The event was attended by heads of various divisions of the faculty, staff members, and participants.
