SKUAST-K organises awareness programme
Srinagar, Sep 20: SKUAST-Kashmir’s Division of LPM today carried out a poultry distribution cum awareness programme under the tribal sub-plan component of All India Co-ordinated Research Project on Poultry in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra Shopian.
A statement said that 30 tribal families from the Shadab Karewa area of Shopian were provided inputs like backyard poultry birds and poultry feed along with a training session on scientific backyard poultry farming.
Prof Azmat Alam Khan, Associate Director Research, OSD to Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K and Principal Investigator AICRP-Poultry during the interaction session urged the farmers to take an interest in backyard and free-range poultry rearing as it can go a long way in supplementing the income of the farmers and strengthening social, economic and nutritional security of rural populace.
Dr Shabir Ahmed Mir, SMS Animal Science KVK Shopian spoke about the role of KVKs in furthering the interests of farmers and the agricultural sector. Farmers were given important tips about poultry rearing, feeding housing, vaccination and other disease control measures. Prof Azmat Alam thanked ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research for Funding the project.
