SKUAST-K organises awareness programme on ‘mental health and drug abuse’
Srinagar, Sep 03: In a unified effort to address mental health and drug abuse concerns, the College of Temperate Sericulture, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Kashmir (SKUAST-K) organised an awareness programme in collaboration with Kashmer and the Help Poor Voluntary Trust.
A statement of SKUAST-K issued here said that part of the Happy and Healthy Minds project, the event, ‘Building Resilience: A Community United against Mental Health Struggles and Drug Abuse’ saw active participation from the faculty and students.
Prof K A Sahaf, Associate Dean of the College, who stressed the importance of integrating mental well-being with education, emphasising the need for a supportive academic environment.
The Project Head at Kashmer, Syed Riyaz Ahmad highlighted the health initiatives undertaken in collaboration with the Help Poor Voluntary Trust across Jammu and Kashmir, showcasing their impact on the region’s healthcare landscape.
Consultant Psychologist and Director YDRC Muhammad Muzaffar Khan, counselor psychologists Aimen Jan and Aadil Rashid delved into critical issues of mental health, particularly among students, and the alarming rise in substance abuse, offering insights into cultivating a healthy, drug-free environment.
Prof M F Baqual urged open dialogue on mental health and advocating for future workshops at COTS to ensure ongoing mental well-being.
Adee-ul-Islam, a college student, gave a speech on mental health and the dangers of drug addiction.
Earlier, the organising secretary, Aabid Khaliq Tantray formally welcomed the guests and provided a comprehensive overview of the day’s agenda.
The programme was moderated by social activist Areej Zaffar, who also presented a Ladishah on drug abuse, blending satire with entertainment to deliver a compelling message.
The programme left a lasting impact, highlighting the collective strength of a united community in addressing mental health and drug abuse.
