SKUAST-K organises Animal Infertility Awareness Camp at Magraypora
Srinagar, Sep 12: The Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-Kashmir, in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Bandipora-1, organised an Animal Infertility Awareness Camp in Magraypora Sopore, Baramulla District.
Sponsored by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India, the event aimed to address livestock infertility and improve animal health in the region.
Local villagers actively participated in the camp, which focused on animal reproductive health and expert advice on improving livestock well-being. A team of Veterinary Specialists from the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, SKUAST-Shuhama, examined 154 animals during the event. The team included Prof Afzal Hoque Akand, Head, Division of Veterinary A.H Extension; Dr Arjuma Khatoon, Associate Professor, Division of ARGO; Dr Mehraj ud Din, Associate Professor, Division of Veterinary Surgery & Radiology; and Dr Gh Rasool, Assistant Professor, Division of ARGO. These specialists provided on-site treatment for various ailments and distributed essential medicines to ensure continued animal care.
Additional support came from Prof. Poonam Sharma, Manager ATIC SKUAST-K Shalimar; Dr Tariq Sultan, Programme Coordinator KVK Bandipora-1; and Dr Tahir Saleem and Dr. Shabir Ahmad, Scientists of KVK Bandipora. Their involvement contributed significantly to the camp's success.
The local community expressed appreciation for the initiative, which brought vital veterinary services directly to their area. This camp highlights SKUAST-Kashmir and the government's ongoing commitment to improving livestock farmers' welfare and promoting sustainable animal husbandry practices in the region.
