SKUAST-K launches Pashmina Goat Management Training Programme

Srinagar, July 2: The Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) initiated a week-long training program on "Management of Pashmina Goat and Pashmina Fiber Analysis" today. The program is a collaborative effort between the Directorate of Extension, the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry Shuhama, and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Leh.

Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, Director of Extension/Education, inaugurated the event as the chief guest. The ceremony was attended by Prof. Feroz Sheikh, Head of KVK Leh, scientists from the Directorate of Extension, and participants from the Ladakh region.

In his address, Prof. Makhdoomi highlighted the university's various initiatives benefiting farmers and farm women. He encouraged trainees to acquire specific skills to serve society and earn a livelihood. The Director emphasized the importance of scientific management and treatment of pashmina goats, along with quality analysis of pashmina fiber.

"This training aims to expand knowledge about pashmina fiber, its quality analysis, and the identification of endoparasites in goats," Prof. Makhdoomi stated. He also stressed the need for youth economic empowerment and entrepreneurship development in the farming sector.

Prof. Feroz Sheikh provided an overview of the training program, while Dr. Liyaqat Chaudhary, Professor at the Directorate of Extension SKUAST-K, delivered the vote of thanks.
