SKUAST-K launches 10-day Beekeeping Entrepreneurship programme
Srinagar, Dec 28: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Srinagar, SKUAST-Kashmir, in collaboration with 41 Battalion BSF, launched a 10-day skill development programme on "Agripreneurship in Beekeeping" at BSF HQ Airport.
A statement said that the programme, which began on December 26, aims to equip rural youth with entrepreneurial skills in apiculture.
DIG BSF (Sector Srinagar) Raghubir Singh attended as chief guest, while Prof. Azmat Alam Khan, OSD to Vice Chancellor, presided as the guest of honour. The event was co-hosted by CO 41 BN Sanjai Kumar Singh, with technical support from RTPPCM-S Shalimar.
In his inaugural address, DIG Singh emphasized the importance of reducing post-harvest losses through improved supply chain infrastructure and value addition to agricultural produce. Prof. Alam highlighted apiculture's crucial role in fruit crop pollination and quality enhancement.
Prof (Dr) Syed Shamim Simnani, Head KVK Srinagar, outlined the program's objective of encouraging youth to establish sustainable agri-businesses, reducing dependence on government jobs. The event featured a display of KVK products and was followed by technical sessions conducted by Dr. Parveena Bano from RTCPPPM Shalimar and Dr Rayees Wani.
The programme's organizing committee included Deputy Coordinator Pawan K. Sharma, Dr Rayees Wani, and Dr Aasima Rafiq. Rajesh K. Pandey (DC/QM BSF) moderated the session, which was attended by trainees, KVK scientists, and local Sarpanchs.
