SKUAST-K kick starts 6-week skill training on vegetable seed production
Srinagar, Nov 20: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir commenced a six-week off-campus entrepreneurship skill development training programme (ESDP) on “Techniques of Vegetable Seed Production”, at Utikoo Baramulla.
A statement said that the skill training is organised by the SKUAST-K’s Division of Vegetable Science under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Govt of India. A group of twenty-five unemployed rural youth with a minimum qualification of 10th pass are participating in the training.
During the course of training the participants will learn about seed production of self- and cross-pollinated vegetable crops. They will be made familiar with seed legislation, certification, packaging and labelling, diseases and pest management of vegetable seeds.
The schemes towards vegetable seed production as an enterprise will be dealt with by resource persons from the line departments.
At the inaugural of the training at Utikoo Baramulla, Dr Gazala Nazir Asstt. Prof. Vegetable Sciences and Coordinator of the training presented the comprehensive details of the activities to be carried out during the training programme.
