Srinagar, Dec 8: A one-day Interaction-cum-Awareness Program was conducted in the village of Benhama, Ganderbal under the DST-SEED funded project, “Inclusion of Indigenous Survival Skills in Livelihood Security of Tribal Community in Kashmir".

The programme led by Principal Investigator, Dr Omar Fayaz Khan, along with DST project staff included interaction with women of the community to assess existing livelihood practices and to inform them about the project’s objectives of promoting sustainable income generation from the dairy cooperative model.

During the interaction, the team observed that around 60 per cent of households were already engaged in dairy-related activities, making dairy the most viable and high-potential sector for immediate income improvement.

The project team highlighted the possibility of establishing a community-based dairy unit in the village, said a press release. The villagers were also sensitised about the comprehensive support offered under DST-SEED, including capacity building, enterprise development, supply of essential equipment, and formation of formal livelihood groups to ensure sustainability and collective growth.
