SKUAST-K hosts training on Organic Farming Certification and Marketing

Srinagar, July 12: The Dry-land Agriculture Research Station (DARS) at SKUAST-Kashmir, Rangreth, organized a three-day training programme on "Organic Standards of India for Certification and Marketing" from July 10-12.

The event, held under the Holistic Agriculture Development Project, aimed to educate participants about organic farming practices and their economic potential.

Dr Mehfuza Habib, Professor of Genetics & Plant Breeding, welcomed the attendees and introduced the programme. Dr. Zahoor A. Dar, Associate Director Research, emphasized the importance of research methodology and training in agriculture during the inaugural session.

Professor Sher A. Dar encouraged participants to leverage the training for economic growth and the formation of Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Dr. Mushtaq A. Dar posed thought-provoking questions to stimulate discussion among attendees.

Dr. Seerat un Nissa, the Training Coordinator and Associate Professor of Soil Science, provided an overview of the programme, highlighting the expertise of the speakers and the diverse background of trainees.

Throughout the three days, experts including Dr. Mehfuza Habib, Dr. A. A. Lone, Dr. Shabina Majeed, Dr. Efath Shahnaz, Dr. Sabeena Naseer, and Dr. Zahida Rashid delivered lectures and presentations on various aspects of organic farming.

A soil card emphasizing the importance of organic farming was released during the event. The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates and Rhizobium-based bio-formulation to participants.
