SKUAST-K hosts programme on Innovation and Entrepreneurship in J&K
Srinagar, Aug 24: The Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) concluded a two-day inter-university academic brainstorming session on sustainable development through innovation and startups. The event, held at the university's main campus in Shalimar, featured a key session on 'Innovation and Entrepreneurship in J&K' chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof Nazir A Ganai.
Prominent speakers included Dr. Riyaz Bashir, Professor of Medicine at Temple University, Philadelphia, who shared his experience in developing an FDA-approved endovascular catheter. Dr. Bashir emphasized the importance of teamwork and regional innovation in addressing medical challenges.
Additional insights came from Dr. Sheikh Fayaz of Zhing University China, Dr. Radhika Trikha, CEO of AwaDH IIT Ropar, and Ms. Anju Gupta, President and Co-founder of IVY Cap. These experts discussed strategies for supporting innovations and startups, stressing the need for government policies to facilitate technology commercialization.
A panel discussion followed, where experts proposed establishing a structured framework to streamline innovation, reduce legal hurdles, and improve access to funding and mentorship for innovators. Best practices for startup success were also shared.
The event, which took place on August 23-24, concluded with recognition of Prof Nazir A Ganai's efforts in developing SKUAST-K's startup and innovation policy.
