SKUAST-K holds workshop on intellectual property rights
Srinagar, Dec 19: Sher-e-Kashmir University of agriculture Science & Technology of Kashmir conducted a one-day workshop on ‘Unlocking Intellectual Property Rights’ at Shalimar campus.
A statement said that the programme was organised by SKUAST-K Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (SKIIE) Centre in collaboration with KIIT- TBI & Manipur Technology Innovation Hub (MTI-HUB) under the sponsorship of the World Bank-ICAR funded National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP) for the institutional development of SKUAST-K.
OSD to Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-K, Prof Azmat Alam Khan, who chaired the workshop, talked about the role of such workshops in present era and made the audience understand the main difference between innovation and inventions, and highlighted the incubation support that SKUAST-K is offering. He also gave overview of SISP and IP Policy, SKUAST K has put in place to facilitate the culture of startups and patents.
Smrita Pathak, Assistant Manager -IP at Bhubaneswar City Knowledge Innovation Cluster Foundation, Science and Technology Cluster, under the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, who was the main expert at the workshop, talked about the importance of various types of IPRs including Patents, Trade Marks, Copy Rights, Design Rights; Geographical Indication (GI). She explained how Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) play a crucial role in protecting and incentivizing innovation and creativity in various fields. She discussed the significant contribution of IPRs to economic growth by fostering innovation and attracting investment.

Senior faculty members from various faculties, students and innovators participated in the workshop. The aim was to raise awareness on IPR related issues in general and more specifically on educating the stakeholders about the value and protection of IPR and its benefits to the economy.
The workshop ended with one-on-one discussion between Participants and Expert to clear the doubts related to IP filling & IPR etc.
