SKUAST-K holds training on cherry processing in Pulwama
Srinagar, Dec 20: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir held a one-day training cum awareness programme on cherry processing in Pulwama.
A statement said that the training was organised by SKUAST-K’s Krishi Vikas Kendra, Pulwama under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Govt of India at Malangpora campus. About 50 candidates participated in the training on ‘Cherry Processing Options for Better Utilization and Returns’.
The training programme was coordinated by Dr Abdul Rouf scientist FST with Dr Ajaz Ganaie, Dr Jahangir Baba, Dr Waseem Ali and Dr Afsa Nehvi as co-coordinators. They delivered lectures on the latest postharvest management practices adopted on scientific lines in cherry fruit. Processing and value addition of cherry including Osmo air dehydration and canning of cherry were given special emphasis as a part of the processing options available for cherry and entrepreneurship opportunities in hand when it comes to processing and value addition of cherry. Besides market opportunities for processed cherry for profitable ventures were also discussed at large during the training programme.
