SKUAST-K holds entrepreneurship awareness programme on Agri-tourism

Srinagar, Nov 9: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology held a one-day awareness programme on ‘Agri-Tourism Entrepreneurship Opportunities in Jammu and Kashmir’ at Srinagar Women’s College, Batpora Zakura here.

A statement said that the entrepreneurship awareness program was organised by SKUAST-K’s Agricultural Economics and Horti-Business Management in collaboration with Srinagar Women’s College, Batpora, Zakura under the sponsorship of the Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. The program was inaugurated by Principal, SWC, Batpora, Prof Tehmina Yousuf and Head, SAE & HBM, Faculty of Horticulture, SKUAST-K, Prof SH Baba. The purpose of the program was to create awareness about Agri-tourism Entrepreneurship and startup opportunities.

Dr Abid Sultan, Assistant Professor, and Training Coordinator from SKUAST-K highlighted the potential of Agri-tourism in UT of J&K. He enjoined the participants to think and act towards mobilization of the community and local resources for the developing Agri-tourism products and services. He elucidated the changing business discourse and the rise of new business segments having inter-sectorial linkages.

Prof SH Baba deliberated upon changing the conventional mindset and creating new entrepreneurial ventures in the agriculture and allied sectors. He discussed the recent transformations in agriculture in light of sustainable development goals and responsible tourism and citizenship.

Prof Tehmina Yousuf thanked SKUAST-K and the organizing team for conducting the workshop at Srinagar Women’s College, Batpora. She emphasized on creation of an innovation culture among the young generation to capture new economic opportunities. She briefed the participants about the potential of having agri-tourism-based businesses in the region.

Dr Irfana Amin Qureshi, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, SWC, Batpora, presented the welcome address. The program was coordinated by Tayab and Nadeem M Bhat students of MBA (Agri Business Management).
