SKUAST-K holds awareness on cultivation of saffron, black zeera
Srinagar, Dec 20: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir organised an awareness programme on the cultivation of saffron and Kala Zeera in non-traditional areas at Bandipora.
A statement the awareness programme was organised by SKUAST-K’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Bandipora and Saffron Research Station (SRS) Pampore.
The collaborative initiative aimed to introduce farmers in non-traditional regions to the cultivation of saffron and black zeera, imparting essential knowledge and techniques for successful farming practices.
The programme featured informative sessions conducted by experts from SRS Pampore. The topics covered included soil preparation, irrigation methods, crop management, disease management and post-harvest practices, providing attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the cultivation process.
Farmers, agricultural extension officers, and stakeholders actively participated in the program. Dr Mir Ghulam Hassan, Associate Professor SRS Pampore, Dr Mudasir Ahmad Khan Assistant Professor SRS Pampore, Dr Niyaz Ahmad Assistant Professor SRS Pampore delivered special presentations. Programme Coordinator KVK Bandipora-1, Dr Tariq Sultan, Subject Matter Specialists from KVK, Dr Tahir Saleem, Dr Hilal Ahmad Malik and Dr Nazir Ahmad Mir also interacted with farmers.
